Hi! I'm Avi.
I’m a privacy specialist with experience establishing Trust & Safety (T&S), security, and privacy programs ex nihilo, to managing and making recommendations on existing programs. I’m an organiser for Crypto & Privacy Village, volunteer at TOOOL, and run around BSidesDC with my team of rabbits.
My focus is on the intersections of technology, policy, equity, peoples, and survivor privacy. I co-founded PlatformAbuse.org, a knowledge source of technological harms and mitigations to guide safer product development, which won prizes from UC Berkeley Big Ideas Contest, Coding it Forward First Act Fund, Mozilla Builders Open and MVP Lab. I also gravitate towards a variety of roles and industries based on my interests. Some of these include:
I was the T&S Lead and Principal T&S Engineer responsible for establishing the T&S program and legal with external firms (US, EU/UK) at a ML/AI start-up. I’ve worked in open and free software or hardware in EdTech and security. I was on a state literacy advisory committee. For a state-wide nonprofit and an international human rights nonprofit, I developed workshops for students, educators, and public officials on LGBTQ youth issues on anti-violence initiatives, online safety, financial abuse. At an airline, I maintained the emergency response and business continuity plans, managing internal and external stakeholders while serving as point-of-contact during emergencies as the station emergency response coordinator. I’ve consulted for individual clients, companies, educators, and conferences.
I’m currently interested in philosophy (personal identity), legal frameworks (e.g. EU DSA), and cross-border data flows.
For fun, besides reading philosophy I love lockpicking, public transit, bouldering, and skateboarding. Feel free to say hi by e-mail ([email protected]), Keybase (av1), Twitter (@_llzes), Bluesky (llzes.bsky.social)!
